Procedure for admission to the Conference des Grandes Ecoles

The rules and procedures for admission are stipulated in the articles of the association (Art. 5 and 6) and in the internal regulations (§ 2 and 3) which define the requirements and the evaluation criteria.

Stage 1: initiation of the procedure

The procedure is initiated upon reception of the application addressed to the President of the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles

In the case of an institution the director must sign the application.
Upon reception of the application, the secretary general informs the President and examines its eligibility.

Stage 2: appointment of an evaluation committee

The secretary general informs the members of the board about the application received and its eligibility

The board decides on the procedure to be followed:

· either the application is rejected and the applicant is notified by mail
· or the procedure is pursued:
- the applicant is notified that his application is being examined and is requested to complete an evaluation form and return it to the "délégation générale"
- the evaluation committee is constituted of reporters first consulted by the general delegate and then appointed by the board

This committee comprises as a rule :

· in the case of an application by a school of engineering :
- two directors of schools of engineering members of the Conférence
- one director of a school of management member of the Conférence
- one representative of CNGE(*)

· in the case of an application by a school of management

- two directors of schools of management members of the Conférence
- one director of a school of engineering member of the Conférence
- one representative of CNGE (*)

In the case of an application by an institution with various specialities the board decides upon the composition of the evaluation committee.

The reporters are informed by mail of their appointment by the board and of the evaluation mandate concerning the institution applying (a copy is sent to the applicant)
They also receive the evaluation form duly completed by the candidate, immediately after reception by the general delegate.

Stage 3: evaluation of the institution

After reception of their mandate and of the evaluation form, the reporters/secretaries of the committee contact the applicant and visit the institution in order to assess, by means of quantitative and qualitative criteria (as defined in the internal regulations) whether the requirements for admission are met.

The visit to the institution is followed either by a written report, submitted to the board of directors, or by a request for further information.

The report is submitted to the board, which may accept or reject the application, or postpone the decision.

The decision must be stated in the proceedings of the board meeting and is reported in writing to the applicant.

Remarks

There are two types of evaluation form (for engineering and management schools). The relevant form is used according to the application.

The above mentioned procedure prevails for admission as "active member" (director of a French institution) and simplified procedure is applied for "corresponding" and "associate" members. The board decides for each case.
